Signs in many of our product categories can be constructed from a number of different materials. Our fabrication department is equipped to handle production in a wide range of fabrication methods.
Channel Letters or nested channel units (shapes that contain words or images) can be formed of coil aluminum or sheet aluminum, bent to shape. These are often internally illuminated with LED modules. Translucent acrylic faced with digital prints or cut vinyl is typically attached to the front of the shape using trim cap edging.
The cutting, shaping, welding, and finishing of sheets, tubing, extrusions, and angle aluminum results in signs referred to as Fabricated Aluminum Signs. Aluminum can be made into cabinet signs, individual letters, and complex shapes. See our post on the Doc Marten’s shoe sign for an example of how far this technique can go.
FCOs (Flat Cut Out), or routed, shapes can be made at different thicknesses in a variety of materials. Aluminum, acrylic, sintra, or even wood can be routed into letters or shapes and mounted to a structure, or incorporated into a sign. They can be mounted flush to a surface or stood off with studs for extra dimension.
LED Lighting is the industry standard for today because it offers considerable energy savings over past traditional lighting sources. There are a wide variety of colors available. Most signs today incorporate LED as their light source.
Sintra is a light-weight option for Internal Display use. The sheets can be routed, painted, or faced with brushed aluminum or vinyl overlays.
Acrylic is available in a variety of thicknesses and opacities. It can be used indoors, or outdoors, can be routed, painted, diffused, and have overlays applied to it. In a cabinet sign acrylic push-thru letters can be illuminated from the interior of the sign. If they are faced with an opaque vinyl they will have an edge-lit appearance.
Plaques can have raised elements created with Rowmark and Braille Beads. Rowmark comes in varying thicknesses and colors. When applied it creates a raised-text effect. Clear sheets can also be used with the reverse side painted for added depth. We also create ADA compliant plaques with braille beads. In the sample shown the plaque is also faced with a brushed aluminum overlay.
Cut Vinyl is available in a variety of opaque or translucent colors. The graphics you see on many illuminated signs is created with translucent vinyl. Reflective vinyl is useful for showing addresses or directions in unlit areas. Frosted applications on glass can look elegant while improving the safety of large glass panels by making them visible.
Digital Printing is a great option for applying artwork that is complex or has shading. Digital printing can be done on opaque, translucent, frosted, or clear vinyl, or on fabric. Digital printing can even be done directly to some rigid surfaces. For both digital and solid color vinyl, interesting effects can be achieved by applying different vinyls to the front and back of glass, or by creating murals on walls that can be trimmed to the shape of the artwork.
Vancouver Sign Group can also provide Awnings and Canopies as part of your project. We can create custom metal-fabricated awnings or marquees for your location. Fabric awnings are also available and come in a variety of colors and patterns and can have your logo or message applied to the fabric.
